For some people Fall is all about the build up to Christmas, for me it’s all about October! Costumes, Halloween stores, trick or treating, jack o lanterns. I would live in Halloween Town if I could. Luckily my job allows me to take fantasy, sci-fi, and cosplay photos all year long. Everyday can be Halloween for me! Whoo-hoo!

Sometimes it takes a Halloween costume to bring out the true personality of a person.

I’m titling this photo, “Somebody done messed up.” Watch out criminals, this little Supergirl means business. If you knew her, you’d know that this costume is really just a reflection of the diva inside. She’s usually on a mission to conquer her surroundings. Do NOT get in her way or you will feel her wrath.

This was the first time I met little Parker. She is a looker! Those eyes! I could have taken pictures of her all day. Literally, she was happy to pose, pleased to look right at the camera, and totally ok with outfit changes. She made my job so easy! Cousin Barrett….we’ll we covered that in the previous blog post. He’s not so happy with the posing. But adorable little boys are always forgiven for being in 100 places at once and not sitting down except through bribery. It’s not easy, but it’s so worth it! I can’t wait to see how these two grow and change over the year.

I know, I know! I’m not supposed to have favorites. But as clients and friends go the Weavers just are. I’ve been photographing them since before they were married. Julie (who moved out of the house this year) was 10 when I first started taking pictures of her. Ben coaches football with my husband which means they always have something to talk about, and you could not meet a sweeter, funnier lady than Sarah who also completely understands what life as a football coach’s wife is like.

Plus, look at how much my camera loves them. These are beautiful people and every time we meet for portraits the laughter just doesn’t stop. Little Barrett – so far not a fan of the camera, but I’ll win him over eventually. Sometime after the terrible two’s have passed I’m sure. When do boys slow down? About 27? Anyway, what a handsome little man he is. He’ll be a heartbreaker when school starts.

Redding Family Portraits Nicole ChelonisAutumn…bless you for your beauty! The leaves changed late in Redding this year. And we were so lucky  to catch them for this session at the end of November. And while we’re praising beauty, let’s just take a moment to admit there is nothing better as a portrait photographer than meeting a cute cooperative little one! Look at this guy! He made me smile the whole time!

This was a combination of family portraits and a few maternity shots of the happy expectant couple. What an adorable family they are. I hope to meet the new little one when he makes his appearance!

Heather and Brandon are very strong in their faith. When Heather and I were talking about her ideas for her maternity session she told me she really liked my digital fantasy art photos. We brainstormed how we could add something into their session that would represent who they are. Heather mentioned a lion and how it represents Jesus in literature – especially the Chronicles of Narnia series with Aslan. Using Aslan as a reference we shot their session with the plan of creating this gorgeous photo for them.

Heather said they are so thrilled with it that they plan to order a giant canvas to hang in their nursery over their baby boy’s crib. Heather is one of the most enthusiastic fabulous women I’ve ever met. Here are her words to describe the photo below when she shared it on Facebook.

Brandon and I had far and away THE BEST maternity photog in the whole wide world.. We both LOVE C.S. Lewis and the timeless spiritual parallels about the love of Jesus and the guidance of the Father.. SoNicole added this amazing Lion (Aslan) to our shoot and THIS…is the result. We could not be happier and this will be hanging front and center in our son’s nursery.. It represents the Lord walking with Brandon and I as we raise our baby boy and learn how to be a family centered around our faith and our God.

It’s football season again and I’m on the sidelines every Saturday night taking photos of the coaches and players. I even have the bruises to prove it this year! For the first time in 8 years on the sidelines I was mildly injured at the game. Meaning that a very exciting play happened and someone either stepped on me or kicked me. I have a big ol’ bruise on my shin and foot and absolutely no memory of it happening. I was so focused on getting the shot and on the excitement of the moment!

This year Shasta College has some fantastic players. Every single one of them that I have met is a really nice guy too. (It might help that I’m a coach’s wife) 🙂  I have some exciting news this season too. My photographs are being used by a local reporter and by a monthly football magazine.

TJ Holmes at the Record Searchlight (another really nice guy) used my photo in his blog and the Offensive Coordinator at Shasta College; Bryon Hamilton will be using my photo for his column in American Football Monthly Do these guys have good taste or what? 🙂

If you found this page looking for the weekly photos of the Shasta College games, you can find those pictures at  chelonisphoto.shootproof.com

The Dragone family has just been blessed with a new gorgeous little baby girl. Dad’s parents came out all the way from New Jersey to visit and they thought it would be a perfect time for a family portrait session. Now in Redding in summer, the thermostat hovers between “Appalling heat” and “Inferno” and outdoor portraits are impossible past 8am. I was invited to photograph the family in their home and it was perfect!

Lifestyle photography allows me to capture moments as they really exist in the lives of a family while also having formal portraits (albeit in a relaxed setting). For instance this family now has a portrait of mom and baby sitting in a rocking chair in the baby’s nursery that was passed down from another beloved family member. That’s just not something you can create in a studio, or open field, no matter how picturesque the field is.

She is so beautiful as an elf! Her hair and makeup were done by Troy Hawkins of Capellis Salon. The costume was a group effort. My gorgeous subject decided what she wanted to be. I found a pattern and an excellent seamstress for the dress. I pulled together the other outfit details from Treasures of the Ancient Dragons and Ebay. All in all I’m so proud of this photoshoot. I’m absolutely thrilled with the way it turned out. I can’t wait to collaborate on more photoshoots with cosplay or fantasy subjects but for now I just can’t stop looking at these photos.

Oh, and check back for updates because I have another epic photo that I’m working on in which this elf fights a Nazgul (Ring Wraith). That photo is a primarily digital composite and will take several hours of editing to finish and I just couldn’t wait to post these others.
